Bahia Honda, Big Pine Key
This three
day trip features a virtually undeveloped island that
is home to a beautiful State park. Bahia Honda Beach
was rated the best beach in the continental United States
by Conde Nast magazine. Activities will include fishing,
kayaking, snorkeling and relaxing. We will be able to
circumnavigate the entire island, exploring all the
nooks and crannies along the way! In the evening, we
will join the fire circle (bring your drum, guitar or
your dancing shoes). We will also explore a secluded
lagoon, which very few people ever get to see. We will
snorkel one of the best spots for viewing the Florida
Keys clear, turquoise waters. Bahia Honda is a great
place for viewing birds, and the annual hawk migration
will be in full swing. Other feathered species may include
Osprey, heron, egrets and Ibis. Try your luck at catching
"the big one" from your kayak.
You will enjoy this unique environment, fantastic food freshly prepared by your guides, and first class camping. Hot showers and flush toilets are provided, letting you camp with the comforts of home. Bahia Honda State Park will be our base camp, and our camp sites are just steps from the ocean.
At the end of each day you can watch the legendary sunset. Later, the stars take center stage. We have actually viewed the Milky Way on past trips. They were so lush it seemed that you could reach out and touch them! Last time, the masked bandits had a party in our camp after we went to our tents, but we had placed all provisions in our vehicles. The raccoons had fun playing in and on the kayaks, though! You will have fun playing, too. Treat yourself to a relaxing long weekend. You deserve the best, and this kayak camping trip will provide just the remedy for stressed out modern life.
