Loxahatchee River, Jupiter, FL

Fresh Side Cypress Forest or Brackish Water to Trapper Nelson's, depending
on water levels.

You will appreciate this tree-lined river, bestowed with the honor of "wild and scenic."
If water levels are right, we can paddle the mystical, meandering fresh side of the Loxahatchee River. You will feel as if you have taken a step back in time, viewing Cypress trees that are hundreds of years old. We may even get to shoot over a couple of dams (again, if water levels are just right.) We will paddle down stream, enjoy a picnic lunch, and return to our launch site.
This river will test your maneuvering skills as we make hairpin turns that wind their way through a mystical Cypress swamp.

If the water levels are not suitable for the fresh side, we will paddle to Trapper Nelson's and back. Trapper Nelson came to the banks of the Loxahatchee River in the 1930's and made a living selling animal hides and wrestling snakes and gators for tourists. We know that you will thoroughly enjoy the walking tour of Trapper Nelson's settlement, which is preserved as a historical site. We will then dine on our picnic lunches under a Seminole-style Chickee hut. Paddle down the only river in FL to be designated as a "National Wild and Scenic River." The Loxahatchee is home to many birds, turtles, alligators, and other wildlife.

Cost: The cost is $78 with rental, guide service and lunch, $60 per person in a tandem (must find your own paddling partner and register together) or $45 with your own kayak and gear
