Peace River, Zolfo
Springs
The
Peace River is a slow, shallow, meandering river that
empties into Charlotte Harbor near Sarasota. We will
paddle down a 20-mile section of the river starting
at Zolfo Springs. The water is at the perfect
level for fossil hunting. We are talking about ancient
times when the Florida was at the bottom of the sea.
There are fossilized sharks teeth and mastadon bones!
As we wind our way down the river we'll pass through
a forest of majestic palms, old oaks & cypress
trees bordered by sandy beaches and high bluffs.
We may see deer, beavers, armadillo, and various birds
throughout our trip. This trip is paced very slow
and is a good “first time” trip for new campers.
